On Friday, 25 October, twelve volunteers from Activate Mental Health attended the 2025 Alike WA Brighter Together Gala. This biannual event celebrates the remarkable work of Perth’s Peer Support Group Sector.

Activate Mental Health was a finalist in two categories. The first was Transformative Impact, awarded to a group that turned support into lasting change. Switched on Seniors, a peer support group helping seniors learn to use technology, won this award. MADDA: Mesothelioma and Dust Diseases Australia, a group dedicated to assisting those affected by asbestos-related illnesses, was the other finalist.

The Capacity Builder award was the other award we were a finalist for. This award was won by a group that successfully built a strong, stable, and enduring community. Kings Park ABI Warriors, which supports people with acquired brain injuries, received this award. The other finalists included Parents Beyond Breakup, a group assisting fathers, mothers, and grandparents affected by divorce.

Although Activate Mental Health didn’t receive these two awards, it was an honour to be among the 52 support groups represented in the room, alongside hundreds of others not present.

Our volunteers enjoyed the vibrant 'pop of colour' theme, the ceremony, speeches, entertainment, and delicious food and drinks.

“I had such a great time at the awards night! Honestly, it was such a lovely group of people. It was awesome getting to see what other support groups are doing out there and to celebrate all the amazing work happening in the community.” - Mel
“It was my first time attending Alike WA’s Gala, and ‘Brighter Together’ certainly fit the theme! I loved the vibrant energy, meeting other passionate, friendly, and inspiring community heroes from all across WA. I’m relatively new to Activate Mental Health but I felt welcome and included. For me, this shows how having peer support groups can benefit one’s wellbeing. It’s awesome that AMH was the finalist for two awards. Huge congrats to the well-deserved and inspiring winners! I can’t wait to contribute more and take AMH to the next level—who knows, we might win next time around!” - Collin

“I am truly passionate about the peer support group sector and the importance of humans coming together to support each other for the benefit of the group. It is always an honour to be part of this event and contribute to this wonderful sector. I want to express my gratitude to the team at Alike WA for showcasing our work and recognising the positive impact these causes have on the community.” – Group founder Rahul Seth.

Below are some photos from the night.

Congratulations not only to the winners and finalists, but also to the entire sector!
