Today, we want to highlight one of ABS's foundational sponsors: the ABS Institute of Management. We spoke with Luke Van Lith, the Operations Manager at ABS Institute, to learn more about why the organisation chose to support our cause.

What does ABS Institute do in the employment services sector?
ABS Institute of Management is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO ID: 51804) that empowers individuals to achieve personal and professional goals through Self-Employment. We deliver Self-Employment Assistance (formerly NEIS) which is funded by the Department of Employment & Workplace Relations. The program which is entering its 40th year helps Australians start and run their own business through free small business training and coaching programs.
How does ABS Institute promote mental well-being among its clients?
ABS Institute integrates mental health awareness into its business coaching and training programs. Clients are encouraged to build resilience and self-confidence whilst on their entrepreneurial journey. We also partner with organisations like Activate Mental Health to help our participants in enhancing self-esteem, social connection, and recovery from mental health challenges.
Why is mental health awareness so important for small business owners?
Mental health is really important for small business owners because it directly impacts your ability to lead, make decisions, and motivate yourself in their business each day. Running a small business often involves long hours, financial uncertainty, and the pressure of wearing multiple hats which can lead to stress, anxiety, or burnout!
When you prioritise your mental health, you are much better equipped to handle challenges and maintain your drive whichflows on to your business and its success. Moreover, a healthy mindset supports creativity and resilience, which are essential for navigating the ups and downs of entrepreneurship.
What role does Activate Mental Health play in the community?
Activate Mental Health is a volunteer-led charity founded in 2016.. It organises inclusive social events such as walking groups, board game nights, and book clubs, that foster community connection and emotional support. The group’s mission is to reduce isolation and promote positive mental health through fun, low-pressure activities.
What does Rahul Seth bring to ABS Institute?
After sponsoring Activate Mental Health since 2021, ABS Institute welcomed Rahul Seth as a business coach in 2024. Rahul’s unique background as a Chartered Accountant and mental health advocate allows him to blend financial acumen with compassionate mentoring. His experience in employment services and community mental health work, including roles with MIFWA and NDIS, enables him to support clients holistically, helping them navigate both business challenges and personal well-being.
Why should other businesses sponsor Activate Mental Health?
Sponsoring Activate Mental Health is a meaningful way to invest in community resilience. The organisation’s grassroots model delivers real impact by creating safe spaces for social connection. Businesses that support AMH not only contribute to public well-being but also align themselves with values of inclusion, empathy, and proactive mental health support, qualities increasingly valued by employees and customers alike.
