Welcoming Our New Directors at Activate Mental Health

Updated: May 18

At Activate Mental Health, we believe that strong communities are built by people who lead with empathy, lived experience and a genuine belief in connection. As our organisation continues to grow and deepen its impact, we’re proud to introduce the newest members of our Board of Directors, each bringing unique experience, insight and heart to the AMH community.

Meet Naomi Carter, Mike Fuller and Michael Bush.

Naomi Carter - Director

Naomi brings a strong background in turning vision into real‑world impact. Her career spans mental health, education, workforce development and cross‑sector collaboration, with a consistent focus on building values‑led systems and sustainable community outcomes.

Naomi is perhaps best known for her work as the inaugural Principal of the WA Recovery College, where she helped pioneer an educational approach to mental health and wellbeing. Recovery Colleges around the world demonstrate the power of learning, shared wisdom and lived experience in helping people navigate life’s challenges and reconnect with community.

Naomi was drawn to Activate Mental Health because of its commitment to connection, fun and inclusion. She is excited to support AMH as it moves from organisational sustainability into its next phase of growth and broader impact.

For Naomi, community connection isn’t theoretical, it’s transformational. She has seen firsthand how inclusive learning environments can increase belonging, social participation and people’s sense of value within society.

Mike Fuller - Director

Mike has built a diverse career across a wide range of sectors and industries, working in many roles as an employee and consultant. His strengths sit in strategy, process improvement and innovation, underpinned by a foundation in quality assurance and increasingly influenced by emerging AI technologies.

Across this varied experience, one thing has remained constant is passion for working with committed people on work that genuinely matters. While Mike recognises the importance of

financial sustainability, he is most motivated by purpose‑led initiatives that centre human experience.

This perspective is what attracted him to Activate Mental Health. He values AMH’s ability to strike a balance: placing experience first, acknowledging mental health without letting it define people, and creating opportunities for individuals to be active together in supportive, understanding spaces.

Through his work and life experiences, Mike understands and believes that powerful connection can be in both quiet and profound ways. Sometimes it is as simple as someone choosing to be present; other times, it is a small action whose impact lasts far longer than expected. He believes these moments should be shared more openly, enabling communities to engage in more honest, courageous and ultimately healing conversations.

Michael Bush - Treasurer & Director

Michael brings both professional and deeply personal insight to his role as Director and Treasurer at Activate Mental Health. He has extensive experience working with young people and young adults facing challenges related to mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and social displacement. He also volunteers his time supporting veterans navigating social impact and adjustment issues.

Following his own period away from the workforce due to poor mental health, Michael came to truly understand the debilitating effects of isolation, and the life‑changing power of reconnection. Since returning to work and study, he has seen how community support can help people feel part of something bigger than themselves.

During his university years, a small but supportive group of peers helped Michael stay connected, encouraged him through assignments and exams, and reminded him that he hadn’t been forgotten by the world. Alongside his family’s unwavering support, these connections played a vital role in his recovery and sense of purpose.

Michael joined the AMH Board to help empower others to move beyond isolation and regain control over one of the most challenging aspects of mental ill‑health.

Looking Forward

Together, our new directors bring a powerful blend of professional expertise, lived experience and genuine care for community wellbeing. Their shared belief in the importance of connection aligns deeply with Activate Mental Health’s purpose to improve wellbeing through fun, inclusive and socially engaging experiences.

We are incredibly grateful to have Naomi, Mike and Michael contributing their leadership and insight as we continue building a vibrant, welcoming community for all.

Please join us in warmly welcoming our new directors to Activate Mental Health.
